Childless couples in the twenty-first century have a number of options when they choose to adopt, but in 1936, options were fewer. There were few counsellors who could help advise those wanting to adopt. So Tommie and Minnie Brock set out to find a baby on their own and told only one person, their family doctor. The doctor connected them with a well-educated, bright, young woman, pregnant and willing to consider adoption. Then my adoptive mother and birth mother pledged in an oral pact to keep my adoption secret. For many years, no one spoke to me about my birth and adoption, and all I could find out was through some grapevine gossip.
This book recounts the sequence of events in my life that led me to full disclosure of that agreement between my two mothers. My life with all its unanswered questions has been blessed beyond measure, showing that God is in control of our lives. I still know nothing about my birth father, but I am certain I have a heavenly Father, Who has made me His child by faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, and has adopted me into His family with full rights of sonship.

Two Mothers and Their 60Year Secret eBook Nita B Rogers

The author was born in 1936 and adopted as an infant. Her parents never spoke of her adoption until she was an adult and then she was given only a bare-bones account with no names or details. Her adoptive mother felt strongly that the birth mother had been promised privacy and that promise must be honored.

Like many adoptees, Mrs. Rodgers was torn between her love and gratitude for her adopted family and her natural desire to know about her blood relatives. I won't spoil the story, but (using public records) she was able to identify and contact one side of her birth family. As might be expected, reactions were divided along generational lines. The younger relatives were intrigued and welcoming. Older ones preferred that the matter be kept under wraps. We tend to focus on changes in society which we feel are harmful, but the increasing honesty about adoption can only be of benefit to adoptees, adoptive parents, and birth parents.

The author has a degree in Christian education. She is the wife and mother of ministers and a long-time employee of the Billy Graham Crusades. As is obvious in the book description, she frames her story in the context of her religious beliefs. I think most readers will find this book interesting and thought-provoking even if they don't agree with the author in every particular. Her writing is plain and readable and her telling of her story is heartfelt and touching. The cover picture is absolutely delightful!

Two Mothers and Their 60Year Secret eBook Nita B Rogers Reviews

The story line was quite good. The protagonist was admirable because she had a very fine Christian soul. I didn't understand the actions of the mothers, but that didn't keep the story from being good.
Not as exciting and intriguing as the title would lead you to believe. More of a nice memoir of a woman's life who just happens to find out she's adopted... Not much more.
The story of a Christian woman's search for her birth parents. Her love for her adoptive parents and her strong Christian faith sustained her through years of wondering and finding no answers.
As an adopted child in 1937, I really related to this book. No one can fully understand how an adopted child feels about many situations. I too had a wonderful family and I know God chose us for each other.
I picked up this book to read on a Saturday afternoon and by bedtime had finished it. I love to read stories about adoptions and foster parents because they are such heart-warming stories.
Forgiveness, understanding and love helped this account of an adopted child have a great ending.Nita, an adopted child never showed and bitter feeling about the secrets that were kept from her. I admire her understanding about the situation that led to her adoption.
Totally disappointed with this book. The title is misleading, and it's more of a story about a woman who is a strong Christian, rather than a woman who is an adoptee and finds out the truth behind her biological family. As an adoptee myself, I am always happy to read stories of others that I can relate to and come to the understanding that I am not alone in this journey. I found myself skimming over paragraphs that related more to her Christianity than her adoption story. It's just not a book that I'd ever recommend to anyone.
